Our Research Pilot Farm
KSA is developing a research-driven pilot farm in collaboration with Oceans Alive and with guidance from the Kilifi County Government.
- Test different farming methods
- Train new seaweed farmers
- Monitor growth and environmental conditions
- Create a model that can be replicated along the Kenya coast

Why Seaweed Matters
Livelihoods
Seaweed farming opens new income opportunities for women and youth, creating reliable coastal livelihoods.
Food Security
Seaweed supports healthier, more resilient food systems. It is rich in minerals and fibre for everyday meals.
Ocean Health
Sustainable seaweed farms reduce pressure on fishing grounds and help restore coastal ecosystems.
What We Do
Pilot farms & training
We design and operate seaweed pilot farms while training new farmers in safe, sustainable methods.
Quality & standards
We help develop safe handling, drying, and grading protocols for community and market use.
Research & monitoring
We collect environmental and growth data to ensure responsible, science-based seaweed farming.
Partnerships & markets
We build partnerships linking communities with NGOs, buyers, and supportive government agencies.
Community Nutrition Program
KSA is developing a school nutrition program that will provide nutrient-rich seaweed to local schools, for free. Seaweed is naturally packed with essential minerals and fibre, making it a simple, healthy addition to daily meals and a powerful tool for improving child nutrition.
Through this program, we aim to Improve mineral intake and overall health for school children, from their own coastline.
Our partners
KSA collaborates with leading organisations, government agencies, and community groups working to strengthen Kenya’s coastal ecosystems and blue-economy opportunities.
