Our Pilot Farm
Our first pilot seaweed farm is a small-scale, carefully monitored project designed to prove the model before scaling. Using two 10 × 10 metre plots, we are testing farming methods, site conditions, and growth performance while training local farmers in best-practice cultivation, handling, and environmental care.
The pilot enables us to gather robust ecological and production data, meet regulatory requirements, and refine a model that can be responsibly expanded along Kenya’s coastline.
The pilot farm will also:
- Establish fair payment structures and clear roles for community members involved in farming and processing
- Create standard operating procedures for food-grade seaweed production and handling
- Provide evidence to support licensing, environmental approvals, and government engagement
- Act as a training and demonstration site for future coastal farming groups
- Inform long-term scale-up planning for a national, community-led seaweed network
